Dadgad Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Rather than boolean (which was there in the last century) I think you are probably thinking of the Loft and Sweep and related NURBS added in 2007 as indicated by SEANT. Hell, or the last millenia, depending on how you look at it! Quote
fostertom Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 Looks like you do custom stuff and not cookie-cutter work. Is this true?Too true! Also deep-green. Keeps me happy but poor. Quote
f700es Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Well I asked because I am not sure how well Revit does with custom stuff. It might be better than it was several years ago. It is great for typical builds but not sure on the custom stuff. You might that you spend more time creating the custom families/wall types than actually doing design. We'll let a few more seasoned Revit users chime in and give their comments. I used to work for a builder and we did a lot of custom builds and I used Acad Arch for the normal stuff and them used vanilla acad/sketchup for the custom parts. Quote
fostertom Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 That exactly reflects my suspicions, but those are from v limited experience and from picking up hints in CAD mags. Quote
fostertom Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 A quick Q - can a sweep (in Acad 2007 on) easily cut a chunk out of solids it intersects with? Punch a hole through, or take a bite out of the edge? I believe that wd be the frequently repeated procedure, with the 3D shaping of building bits (I hesitate to call them components) which are usually trimmed in situ to fit to the next bit. I wd be looking for great ease, flexibility and control of options, in the repeated use of that tool. Quote
JD Mather Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 A quick Q - can a sweep (in Acad 2007 on) easily cut a chunk out of solids it intersects with? You might go through the AutoCAD 2007 tutorials in my signature. Of course, 2007 is no longer available. Quote
fostertom Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 thanks for all the responses - believe it or not I keep understanding new things/bits of info, much further forward now. Can prob buy an outdated Acad cheaply. Like getting to know the features of mk1, mk2, mk3 of yr favourite classic car, you find out which is the best version to look for. 2007 might be 100% adequate for my simple needs, later bells & whistles unnecessary. No. 2007 no longer available. Autodesk closely controls licensing of the software. If anyone tells you that they can sell you AutoCAD (any release) cheaply - run the other way. You will either say goodby to whatever money you do give them or open up yourself or your company to significant legal (financial) liability. Quote
