Adam - Inspire Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Hi I have been using Vehicle Tracking for a while now and often adjust of create custom vehicle but was interested to know if anyone has come across a source for vehicle details for swept paths? Adam Quote
BIGAL Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 You have to go on the manufactures web site and often values are not there, like max steer angle, can normally get wheel base info. Even these can be modelled. 1 Quote
tombu Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 Not an exact science Vehicle Tracking is an educated guess. Max steer angle and wheelbase are the biggest factors but while many vehicles look similar steer angle varies a lot by use model and manufacturer. For a particular vehicle we're gone so far as to have the vehicle needing access do the turns on dirt and locate the tracks with a survey crew. Generally though for approving plans we call for standard vehicles according to use like any commercial business with a dumpster has to be designed for pickup access. Quote
BIGAL Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 (edited) Like Tombu the guys where I used to work got the crayon out and marked the ground as the truck turned and surveyed it. For a fire truck had the specs but no vehicle found a European truck so close used that I think we just tweaked a couple of the values. My Nissan civilian motor home 6m long does a u turn better than my car. We had a planning submission for the best semi driver in the world to carry out a manoeuvre we deduced the turn angles had been adjusted so as to make it work asked consultant in no un certain terms "HAVE A NOTHER GO" no cheating. SLW210 Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 I use the one in CadTools, the defaults have worked for me, but you can customize the vehicles. I just did a turnaround area a couple of weeks ago, I'll have to see how well I did when they finish making it. So far, all of the paths I made have worked easily. I double checked some of the information on trucking forums and manufacturer sites and the information with CadTools seems pretty accurate. I asked my boss if we could access a tractor and trailer to check, but no dice. Quote
BIGAL Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 Yes have met Bus company on site to discuss parking arrangements, was very helpful. Another problem was bus turning in suburban street, bus had no problems but realised it was the drivers not taking their time turning so we changed the corner anyway with new kerbs. Quote
Steven P Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Going to resurrect an old thread.... Going to have to do some vehicle tracking this week or next, articulated lorry but extended trailer. I have a PDF of the dimensions. Is there an easy to follow guide out there that shows what values to put where to convert a CAD drawing into a vehicle tracked vehicle? Thanks (My first attempts this morning had the trailer pointing out the front, cutting the driver in half). I guess I can work it out trial and error but jumping that part. And second question which is my default model for new tools, does anyone have an x wing fighter modelled as a 'vehicle'? That might be a weekend thing. Thanks Quote
BIGAL Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago (edited) Many years ago now I think it was "Autoturn" it popped up a dcl/picture that you put all the values into, so just found one close first and printed it, that gave what values went where. Was it also "Vehicle tracking" by Autodesk ? Edited 13 hours ago by BIGAL Quote
SLW210 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I use the one in CadTools and it has window that opens and you can adjust the parameters and create a custom vehicle. 1 Quote

Thanks BigAl, I was mistaken yesterday, thought AutoTurn had been taken on by AutoCAD so didn't look more into it... but it is a 3rd party add on - looks good and a minimal cost... but for this not sure 'IT' would let me have it... but I'll put in a request... you never know and always good to have new toys to play with Quote

Thanks, looked at this before but CADtools are a special request for us, probably needs signing off by some deity or other Quote
