ReMark Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 The "hotfix" I was referring to: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=11783277&linkID=9240898 People have to learn how to search the AutoDesk website for service packs and hotfixes. Quote
Cad64 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I've just added a Sticky in the "Useful Links" section. Quote
ReMark Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Why "Thank You" kind sir. Much appreciated. I get the impression some people are "search challenged". Quote
Bill Tillman Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 My systems don't freeze with 2009 but I have noticed that on the four systems I frequently use, some of which run 2007 and the others run 2009, some XP and some Vista I have problems when running 3DFORBIT. The machine works fine for awhile but then the 3DFORBIT stop orbiting in real time. I drag the mouse to get the rotation I want and nothing changes. Then I stop and the view changes to the position it would have been in after the orbit. I have found the only way around this is to shutdown AutoCAD 200x and then restart it. No reboot of the computer is neccessary, just restarting AutoCAD. I do lots of 3D work but nothing really high end. My systems are mostly AMD64 systems running 32 bit versions of Windows and ACAD. Cad64 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Have you installed all of the available updates and service packs? Autocad 2009 Update 2 addresses issues with 3DOrbit. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9240618 Quote
Rucker34 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 This may be a stupid question but are tou sure it is not just your auto save steeings? I know with mine it will freeze for a couple of seconds everytime it auto saves. Quote
ReMark Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 The computer may appear to hang for a moment when indexing files (a.k.a. - "churning"). Turn OFF automatic indexing in both XP and Vista. Quote
Fearless Freddie Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I am using a 64 bit machine with Vista. I spend most of my time wondering what is taking so long between commands. That is when I’m not recovering from a crash. I have all of the updates and patches that I can find. Does anyone have some help other than looking for NEW SOFTWARE? Quote
Nigel E5 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Hi Guys Thanks for tall the info so far. I was being ironic about the the 2010 release........ I regularly clean the the machine with C Cleaner, defrag once a month, machine 2.5 years old due to replace this year. 2008 ran Ok autosave has all ways hung slightly when its running and not resetting its self Trying the hot fix now. ReMark Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Freddie: What is the exact nature of your problem? I would advise that in the future you start a new thread rather than append your question to a thread-in-progress. Quote
Fearless Freddie Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I have posted a new thread "What is taking so long between commands?" Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I had been running into ACA locking up every time I'd start a draw command (line, ray, circle, etc.). I ignored it for the first few times thinking it was due to a script insertion from HSBCAD (we use some pretty detailed blocks for brackets/electrical components). Once I looked into it I realized i'd accidentally turned on dynamic UCS, and AutoCAD was freaking out from trying to constantly shift the UCS over the profiles of our logs and trim. This may come in to play for the OP's cabinetry models if they have highly detailed trim profiles. Quote
new@autocad Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Does anyone have problem with computer crashing on Autocad 2009? I am using 2009 autocad and 2007 MS outlook. When open Autocad 2007 and have open MS outlook, I don't have same problem. Quote
Cad64 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 You will need to answer all of the same questions that were asked earlier in this thread. Also, is your computer crashing, or is Autocad crashing? Quote
new@autocad Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 You will need to answer all of the same questions that were asked earlier in this thread. Also, is your computer crashing, or is Autocad crashing? Everything. My computer restarts by it self. Quote
Cad64 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Have you tried scanning your computer for viruses? Please answer all of the questions that were asked previously in this thread. We need more information about your computer and the programs you're running. Quote
johnpierpoint Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 We have the same thing at our office. ALL CAD workstations have started freezing up SIMULTANEOUSLY every minute or so for a couple of seconds. This can go on for some time, then we get times when everything runs OK. These are Dell T3400 workstations with NVidia graphic cards (can't remember the spec - but I don't think hardware is the issue here) 4GB RAM. One machine is a different spec (Dell Optiplex, 3GB RAM, built-in video). All machines running WindowsXP 32 bit with SP3 and updates, McAfee VScan, Office2007, IE7 and ACAD2009. It happens regardless of what drawings are open, whether in 2D or 3D. A complete removal and re-install of ACAD2009 on one machine made no difference. All machines were working fine for over a year until just a couple of weeks ago, and ACAD2009 has been on and working OK for many months, so I suspect there is some MS update that ACAD doesn't like. Other applications do not seem to be affected. Many of the postings on this thread refer to different symptoms, but the inital post sounds like the same problem we are seeing. Tried disabling Infocenter in case it was this trying to contact the Internet. No better. Tried enabling the Windows 3GB switch in boot.ini on some machines to fix an unrelated issue, but this makes no difference to this problem. Now faced with doing a system restore or wipe and re-install to try to isolate the cause. . . Quote
johnpierpoint Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Thanks for the quick reply! I don't think this is the issue in this case. The fact that it happens to all users simultaneously means it can't be down to individual drawings or PC setups. I'm sure that it's some scheduled activity. All our PCs have synchronised clocks (synced at logon with a net time command. Hmm. . . maybe a good test would be to set one 15 minutes out and see if it still happens simultaneously). It may also be to do with our licence server (standard Flex server), although my understanding is that the application only checks with the server for a licence on opening, not every few minutes. ReMark Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Here's an idea that is seldom discussed. Perhaps your anti-virus program is somehow misinterpreting something AutoCAD is doing. Can McAfee VScan be temporarily disabled to see what, if anything, happens when working with a drawing? Quote
