What is your desired CAD software?

Depends on what you want to do/design.

Yeah, what he said. While plain old Autocad will do about anything, there are specialty tools that do it better. You need the tool that is appropriate for what you are going to do. If you're going to draw houses, Inventor is probably not a good choice, while at the same time, if you are going to design cuckoo clocks, revit will be useless. Autocad is sort of the "crescent wrench" of design software, and will get is done for ya, but there are better tools for the job...provided you know what the job is.

Here's my personal list:

  • Freebie CAD Software: 3DS DraftSight
  • Serious CAD designing needs: AutoCAD 2012
  • 3D BIM Modeling for MEP Design: AutoCAD MEP 2012
  • Architectural BIM Modeling: Revit
  • Super friggin' easy 3D stuff: SketchUP
  • Vector graphics needs with CAD designs: Inkscape

Jack_O'neill is right. Use the right tool that appropriate is important. Every software has its own advantages and disadvantages, so combine to use maybe a good idea.
