Help......PC is so slow when working in 3D

I had 2012 on a WinXP system and now I have it on a Win7 system. To me there is simply no comparison. This was at home and on different hardware. Now at work I just switched from Vista-32 to Win7-64 on the same system and it was also like night and day. I would like to see a comparison of 32 to 64 on same hardware.

I couldn't find any head-to-head comparisons, but there's some links, quotes, and opinions about 32 vs 64bit AutoCAD here

But we're off on a tangent as far as I'm concerned because the OP originally stated that it's a relatively simple drawing, so I don't believe it's a hardware or Operating System bottleneck. To me, it's very obvious that it's conflict between some feature, driver, or dll in 2010 and the OP's system.

We see this all the time when some users have to disable certain features in order to achieve acceptable performance, while others can use those features without issue on similar systems. For example, some users can't run with the properties palette open, others can't undock certain palettes, the command line in particular. Still others have to disable Dynamic Input, or Dynamic UCS, or Selection Cycling, or roll-over-tool tips etc. AutoCAD just tries to do "too much" to be compatible with everyone's particular configuration, and it gets worse everytime a new feature is added.

I have no doubt that you saw a performance boost when moving from 32 bit to 64 bit... but you can't just attribute that to the OS because you're running completely different drivers for all the hardware, It's just as likely that it could happen in reverse if AutoCAD didn't like one of your system's 64 bit drivers.

What I cant understand is, as the images below (sorry for the big pics..just to lazy to cut em down) the R12 was only 'bout 10m difference in memory claim. But the R12 takes about a minute to load where as the R7 takes about 7 sec.????

Get a new graphics card on the approved list for AutoCAD 2012.

Or get a software that works with what You have!

Let's see, how many thousands of additional lines of code did the programmers add when they created 2012? You don't see all that extra code/functionality as being part of the problem as to why 2012 loads slower than 2007?

Dunno about 2007, but the AutoCAD folder on my computer is about 7x bigger for 2012 than 2005. 2012 64bit is darn near twice as big as 2011 32bit ('13 is actually a little smaller than '12)

230MB vs 1.62GB Yeah, that's gonna make a dent....
