  1. I am having a problem with Solidworks discreetizing 3D curved lines which is giving me problems down the road when importing my model into Ansys DesignModeler. I'll illustrate the problem by way of example: I have a number of bodies that I want to "cut up" for better meshing. In the instance I have attached, I used a slightly over-sized sketch of the chord profile and the split feature to divide the weld into two sections. As you can see in the first attachment, the resulting split *appears* to be a continuous line in Solidworks. This is want I want. In Ansys, however, the continuous line is broken up into discreet segments (see attachment two). I'm fairly certain this issue is on the Solidworks side, but if there are any Ansys experts who think otherwise, I'm happy to explore all options. I've sunk the better part of a few days into this issue and I can't seem to move forward with it.
  2. I am writing a LISP to find subtle kinks between curves. Right now I'm stuck on finding all the angles. Is there an efficient way to do this? I'm hoping to find the angles between connected curves, including arcs and polyline curves, and then highlight (draw a red circle?) around all angles with less than 20 degrees difference (160 to 200 degrees) between the lines. If possible I'd eventually like it to be able to automatically smooth the kinks, but I think that that part will have to come at a later time. On a completely unrelated note, I can't stop seeing this as a cyclops.
  3. I am coming up to the 3 year mark of working with Solidworks (in education not professionally!). I have an imported surface that I have made some modifications to for a hinge mechanism. It has come to my attention that I have made the surface 'too curved', I have spent hours trying to adjust the curves on the two sides - I only need the two sides curved around 25% less (doesn't need to be dimensionally perfect at all! just look right! If anyone could shed some light on how I would go about this... hopefully without re-doing the whole part again as I have several other pieces I need to attempt the procedure on also! See sample. If you would like to see the part, I can provide you with the upload link as it is too large to upload unfortunately
  4. Hello all, Does anyone have a good resource for the definitions of vertical curve types? Something with examples along with definitions, like a pdf hopefully. Any and all help and links are appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving, Phil
  5. In creating circles and arcs, they work fine, I can fit them, stretch them and make all my interior design details look nice. Often, when I use the move command (or other times/ways) the curved lines suddenly go faceted and no longer curves. When I move/copy item just next to itself, all is well. Seems to happen when I move the item from one space on the grid up to another place on the grid area. Once there, I can copy it, and the arc/curve returns on the copies item, but the original stays with the faceted sides. I spent an hour drawing a huge display of greenery, ivy leaves, etc. with 2 arcs simply face to face to create "leaves". The poly-lines seemed to stay with original curves, but the arcs and circles keep changing on me in my drawings. any curve ( So far I create all of mine through the circle and arc icon button commands) Sometimes moved within my grid area, and sometimes moved off the grid and moved back on again. I cannot say exactly when the format changes,, but I sure notice once I'm working on the final versions of drawings. Any advice to prevent this, & any advice to pick a complicated drawing of leaves/vines and return the whole thing back to curves? Current drawing; Limits; 500. , 500. / Grid spacing 0.2258 Snap is off. Ortho on and off - no effect. 6. Hi, I cannot for the life of me remember how to get around this one. I have a line with randomly spaced nodes and it also is curved. I need to turn it into a polyline, densify it and export those extra positions. So far I have done line to polyline no problem, but when I try to densify (I have a densify lsp) the 'nodes' are not at the fixed interval where there is a curve. How do I get around this? I have tried exploding the line and joining them into a polyline but it still doesn't work. If I decurve then the curve disappears which is no good as I need the polyline to retain its shape. Any help would be amazing
  7. Fillet works fine on a single curve and straight lines, but I'm having trouble using the fillet command on two curves (arcs). I have two circles which I have trimmed into arcs roughly to the correct length, when I try to fillet them (with various radii) the filleted curve either connects to the wrong end of one of the existing curves, or the filleted curve curves in the wrong direction. I've used this tool a lot before and have never had problems - until now. Is there a way to decide which way the fillet curves? Any advice would be much appreciated. Ben
  8. I'm wondering how to generate curves for alignments based on monuments. Say I have two monuments tha represent the start and end of a curve. The old method is to draw two perpendicular lines from the monuments and draw a circle with a radius where those lines connect. What is the new way using Civil 3d? Thanks.
  9. Good Afternoon, I am currently working on a project that involves some basic collision simulation of an LNG ship in Solidworks. However, before I can do that I need to turn the ship (which at the moment exists as a series of curves, see attachment!) into a solid object, which I can then export as an IGES file. So far I have tried the PRESSPULL command on the advice of someone, and it hasnt worked at all, only produced a "not responding message". Can anyone help me apply a surface, or turn the curves into a solid object? Any help would be greatly appreciated by an extremely inexperienced CAD user! Many thanks gp11g08

    curved zigzags

Hi, I am new to autocad and new to forums so please be nice! I need to draw a curved zigzag with rounded points in autocad. I have managed to draw a curved zigzag with the zigzag linetype but it has gone gappy due to the curve and i cant fillet the points. I have managed to draw a straight zigzag and fillet the points. I don't know how to draw a curved zigzag accurately on here. Can someone help me please!? Rosie

    locked curves

I am working in Rhino 4.0. I am doing some work with a lot of curves, and most of them have locked themselves. I have already unlocked all of the layers and typed 'unlock' in the task bar. Any advice on how to unlock these curves would be appreciated.
